Eivind J. Heiberg
Honorary Consul of the Kingdom of Norway to Minnesota
Eivind Heiberg serves as the Norwegian Honorary Consul General, representing the state of Minnesota. He was appointed by His Excellency Ambassador Kåre R. Aas as the highestranking consular officer in the Upper Midwest. In his role as Honorary Consul General, Heiberg is responsible for leading efforts to facilitate the development of commercial, economic, cultural and scientific relations between Norway and the Upper Midwest.
Previously, Heiberg spent 18 years at Sons of Norway, the last 10 of which as CEO. In this role, he oversaw an insurance company with over $360 million in assets and an international cultural organization boasting more than 50,000 members focused on promoting and preserving the culture and heritage of Norway. In addition, he served as CEO of the Sons of Norway Foundation, an $8 million philanthropic entity dedicated to funding activities that preserve and promote Norwegian heritage. The Foundation awarded more than $2.3 million in scholarships, grants and humanitarian aid to its members. Heiberg served as Fraternal Director prior to his appointment as CEO.
Currently, Heiberg is a member of the Board of Chancellors for the Consular Corps College, which serves as The National Association of Foreign Consuls in the United States. Mr. Heiberg has served on numerous boards, including Director on the national board of the American Fraternal Alliance, the Minnesota Insurance and Financial Services Council, Ski for Light. In addition, Mr. Heiberg is past President of the Norwegian American Chamber of Commerce, Upper Midwest Chapter, and a past President of the Minnesota Fraternal Alliance. He is currently an active member of the Young Presidents Organization.
Mr. Heiberg earned a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration and Mass Communications, cum laude, from Concordia College and completed his coursework for a Masters in Speech Communications from the University of Minnesota. He is married to Michele and is the proud father of triplets.
