David Robinson
Honorary Consul for Japan in North and South Carolina
David Robinson has been the Honorary Consul for Japan in North Carolina since 2015. He has been the Chairman of the North Carolina Consular Corps since 2018, representing the 20+ heads of diplomatic missions in North Carolina. In almost three decades as an international lawyer, David has assisted clients in cross-border transactions around the world. He has been to over 55 countries. He has run two US subsidiaries of foreign companies. In addition, he has been politically active in North Carolina for almost three decades.
David perennially serves on more than a dozen boards and commissions, including as a member of the Board of Governors of the North Carolina Bar Association and the NCBA Future of Law Committee. He has twice chaired the International Law Section and he has been active in the Bar’s Haiti and Lawyer Exchange programs. He is the recipient of the Dortch Award, the highest award accorded an international lawyer in North Carolina.
David is an adjunct professor of Law at Campbell University where he teaches Business Organizations and Global Corporate Compliance.
David is a Fellow of the Institute of Political Leadership and the BCBSNC Healthy Community Institute, he is a Rotary International Fellow, and he is presently a Chancellor of the Consular Corps College. David lectures on topics as diverse as international trade and healthy marriages.
Mr. Robinson is an active athlete. He is a competitive swimmer and has completed dozens of triathlons and road races including several marathons, a Half Ironman, and a Full Ironman Triathlon. He competed as a member of Team USA at the World Triathlon Championship in 2011 in Beijing, China, in 2014 in Edmonton, Canada, and in 2019 in Pontevedra, Spain. He has qualified as a member of Team USA for the 2022 competition in Townville, Australia. He is a member of an award-winning racecar team. He and his wife, Sue, have been married for 30+ years.
